After finishing ORCS! The Curse, I promised myself I would take some classes. I’ve been feeling the itch to change things up, and the desire to move my work into n even more analog space than it already occupies. So, I decided to take a Continuing Education Editorial Illustration Class…

ZINES!

ZINES!

There’s a good sized community out there for any kind of zine you can think of, not to mention numerous local and national zine fests where zinesters can gather to trade their books. They have long served the comics community as a way to tell a story that is short and unfettered. Some zines are akin to tiny works of art: riso printed, screen printed, hand bound, and full of fancy papers. Others are quick and dirty fold-ups that serve the purpose of any ephemera, a quick relay of information…

Sketchbook Fury | Comics

I thought it would be a good idea to get some of my older sketchbook comics up on here, since they really have nowhere cohesive to live.

Old Besties started as a sketchbook doodle that lots of people responded to. I dusted the girls off once COVID came knocking.

All of the sketchbook comics below have been done since last March. In most cases, I sketched them out first and then colored them digitally, but there are a few painted pieces in there. I put them into order of creation. They were designed, mainly, as instagram posts, and probably read best in that format. You can find them on my swiperight_comics instagram page.

Then & Now (Volume 2)

Then & Now (Volume 2)

About a year ago, I contributed to an art book on kickstarter called Then & Now. The editors picked a number of illustrators and asked us to find old drawings from childhood to redraw now that we are professionals.

As with last year, I went to my high school sketch book (I was approximately 15 or 16 when I had this one) and plucked out two random character pages.
